This image, captured on film at Mt Wilson in the Blue Mountains, sat in my archive for a while and was re-discovered when selecting for my book, Chasing the Light (2014). I love the way the road draws you right into this image and the way fallen leaves have created a carpet on either side of the road. There is still something beautifully simple magical even about film. You just take a photo and hand it over to be processed. Then the excitement you feel when your shots come back after processing and you uncover a hidden gem, is a bit like panning for gold and suddenly finding a good sized nugget. You dont feel like you have to enhance the image to open up all the shadows, or try to hold all the highlights. You just show what really happened when the light hit that piece of film, immortalising the scene and capturing a golden moment.
